"Thoughtful planning and preparation are key to a rewarding future, but we do not live in the future—we live in the present. It is day by day that we work out our plans for the future; it is day by day that we achieve our goals. It is one day at a time that we raise and nurture our families. It is one day at a time that we overcome imperfections. We endure in faith to the end one day at a time. It is the accumulation of many days well-lived that adds up to a full life and a saintly person."
This is a quote from Elder Christofferson's talk at the last CES Broadcast, on something that I need to be reminded of daily. Yes, I need to remember everyday to live day by day. I have often lamented that I am not like Anne of Green Gables. I don't have the exact quote, but she is apologizing to Marilla for another mis-adventure and then follows with a positive spin on her character. Although she seems to make every possible mistake, at least she doesn't make the same mistake twice. She learns her lesson and moves on to the next. I have the opposite problem. I cycle through the same "mistakes" over and over again.
It is so frustrating to struggle with the same...frustration on a regular basis. Will I EVER learn my lesson!?! Maybe, but right now all I know is that when I follow Elder Christofferson's advice and take my life one day at a time (sometimes one hour at a time), I feel more confident and accomplished as a wife, mother, daughter of God.
