Popsicles, suckers, and ice cream

We have recently been through a round of sickness. Little John got it first and seemed to suffer the worst. We had a night of dreaded fever that wouldn't let him sleep. He was anxious and crying and miserable. I felt helpless. We finally gave up on sleep but stayed in bed and watched cartoons on the laptop. At first I felt a little guilty, letting my boy stay up all night watching "T.V.", but that didn't last long. It calmed him down. He cuddled next to me and was able to relax, so I relaxed as well. After awhile we fell asleep, and I was thankful.

The fever went away but he was left with a horrible sore throat and cough. My usually super active boy was all to happy to just sit on the couch and look miserable. I hate it when my kids are sick!!! He wouldn't eat much, but never passed up a popsicle or sucker! And I didn't mind giving them to him. Is that bad? I often wonder what other people would think of my "mothering", but that in itself is very draining. So I'm trying to be more comfortable with my decisions, without worrying about what others may think, and I am happy to say that in this situation I was totally fine with giving my sick little boy popsicles, suckers, and yes, ice cream. So there! It soothed his throat and we were all able to get through a nasty cold.

Unfortunately Evelyn was next to suffer. No fever, but a really bad sore throat. Bring out the suckers! She loved it. :) A little bit of happiness can go a long way.
