Sleeping Like a Baby

Since having my own babies I have often wondered how the saying "Slept like a baby" came to mean that you had a great night sleep. I suppose when they actually fall asleep it is a nice deep sleep and not much bothers them, but they don't stay that way for long! After a good 2 or 3 hours they wake up with an empty tummy and a full diaper.

With my first baby I admit that I went a little crazy due to sleep deprivation (and many other things that come with motherhood). While expecting number two it was the upcoming sleepless nights that worried me the most. But in my 8th and 9th month I didn't sleep very good anyway. Was I in training for my near future? Maybe, because now I don't feel so crazy. Yes, I do get frustrated sometimes when she refuses to go back to sleep at 3 in the morning, but quite frankly I am surprised by my level of functionality during the night, and even into the day. I suppose my little boy conditioned me well. :)

However, I also ask for help every night in my prayers. My first few nights were not that great and I wondered why my prayers for sleep seemed to go unheard. I know Heavenly Father loves me, and needs me to take care of these children, which means I need sleep...right? I was in this thought process when some voice in my head said "You're saying the wrong prayer". Thankfully it didn't take more than that to clue me in. "Oh", I thought, "don't pray for sleep, pray for strength and ability". The baby is going to wake up, because that is how babies sleep. There's no getting around that, so we are getting through it.

So I now sleep like a baby. These nights are not the best sleeps I've ever had, but I feel pretty good anyway!

You guys look so precious! It probably was a guy who came up with, "sleep like a baby." :)
