Groovy

The Young Women in our ward had their annual fund raiser for camp, a Cake Auction! Unfortunately I was unable to stay for the actual auction (the fun part), but I did make a cake to contribute. Nothing but a Devils Food Cake mix, covered with vanilla frosting. (I had to use all my yellow food coloring to get it the right shade). York Patties make the "shades", and I was supposed to use black shoestring licorice for the smile and ear pieces on the "glasses" but I couldn't find that anywhere. So I made a semi-sweet chocolate frosting for the middle of the cake and used some to pipe on the smile, etc..

I had fun putting it together, and thought it looked rather clever, despite it's simplicity. Of course I felt it looked silly when I put it next to the other cakes that were brought in. I wished I had put "anonymous" down for my name! Someone did buy it though. And that someone happened to be my mother-in-law! So I made my cake, and got to eat it too!

Since then I have decided that a cake from a box really isn't very good. I admit that you can do allot of tricks to spruce up a cake mix, and yes, they are very convenient. But a cake made from scratch is so much more satisfying!
