My own angel Mother gave me a new pot a few weeks ago. It is so beautiful, and so heavy (as cast iron cookware is), that I thought I needed special recipes in order to use it! Of course my mom tells me that is not the case, this pot can be used for anything. What a wonderful pot! But still, its "maiden voyage" needed to be something hearty, something that would match its beauty. Stew popped in my mind and it seemed the perfect thing. Large chunks of mouth watering beef, potatoes and carrots that tend to melt between your teeth, and peas that give a pleasant "pop" when you bite down on them. What a wonderful medley of texture and flavor!
I made that! And without a "real" recipe!

To compliment our stew (and make this a real "cowboy" meal) I made drop biscuits.
Basically biscuit dough that is to wet for the conventional method of rolling and cutting out. So you pinch a sticky hunk of dough off and drop it on the pan! They are wonderfully crisp and crunchy on the outside.

And so here it is! My first stew! I feel so grown-up. :)
